How to Elevate Oatmeal to Superfood
Drink a glass of this with your oatmeal to help elevate your breakfast to superfood status: orange juice.
Why? The nutrients in oatmeal and OJ work synergistically to provide double the benefits you'd expect from simply adding their powers together.
Food Synergy
The phenols in oatmeal and the vitamin C in OJ both help make LDL more stable -- and that's a good thing, because the more stable LDL is, the less likely it is to rupture, stick to artery walls, and cause this. But consume the phenols and vitamin C together and they'll stabilize LDL at twice the level expected from adding their effects together. It's like this: 2 + 2 = 8, not 4, when it comes to phenol + vitamin C benefits.
Cast a Wide Net
So how can you take advantage of more food synergies? The best way is to eat a varied diet rich in colorful fruits and veggies, healthy fats, different kinds of whole grains, and few or no processed foods. This will give nutrients the best shot at meeting up in your body and reinforcing one another as they guard against disease. _________________ " Forget past mistakes. Forget failures. Any other options? Ever since I had my gallbladder removed years ago, the acid in orange juice upsets my stomach. I have water with breakfast and lunch and some kind of juice like lemonade, cranberry or pomegranate with dinner. I'm just that predictable!
Thanks for all the great info as usual bugs. You've added a wonderful online library aspect to the site here. _________________ Best of Everything,

have you tried Naked Juice..yeah that's what it's called..it's 100 percent juice and tastes great..they are kind of expensive about 250 a bottle but if you read the label on bottle is two servings...
check this out
http://www.nakedjuice.com/
green machine is my favorite when you read what's in it you think Yuk but it's very good..I put blue machine second...
oh and to add fiber I put in a teaspoon of milled flax seed...the problem with juices is you lose the fiber in the fruit. _________________ " Forget past mistakes. Forget failures. Forget everything except what you're going to do now and do it." |

I've seen that in the grocery store before and yes I think I've had it a few times. Thanks for the reminder! _________________ Best of Everything,

bugs, I've got a question. Would there be the same benefit if an orange is consumed, rather than the juice? I have stopped buying juice because of the extra sugar and calories, and concentrate on eating the whole fruit instead.
I'm an oatmeal fanatic now. I've eaten my way through regular rolled oats, organic rolled oats, thick, extra thick, organic, rolled oats, and believe it or not, there is a difference in every one. Bob's Red Mill makes the best, in my opinion. It's a little pricey with the shipping, but worth every penny. |

I'm also an oatmeal fanatic.....I eat a big bowl every morning, with raisins!
Steel cut oats are really tasty, but I usually eat regular ones. I'll try the Bob's Red Mill when I run out of my current silo o' oats. _________________

The best bowl of oatmeal I've ever had was after a night of partying on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood (during my L.A. acting/industry years); I think it was called "The Coffee House" (for anyone else who has lived in Hollywood/L.A. - it was the place across from Miyagi's/Chateur Marmount next to the newspaper stand - now it's a waffle joint ).
It was this giant bowl of oatmeal with literally all the fixings, the presentation was beautiful; Amazing! Ah, fond memories of 2am oatmeal. The place was packed too - all restaurants on Sunset are packed at 2am with a waiting list because that's when the bars close and hunger sets in. The oatmeal was a nice change from the more typical fast food at Mel's Diner that everyone goes for.
Yay for oatmeal!! _________________ Best of Everything,

Sandra, thanks to your post, I finally tried steel cut oatmeal. Wow! It's just the chewy texture I've been looking for. Instead of raisins, I use currants which are sweeter. In the Northeast they're sold mostly for "holiday baking" and will soon be off the shelves. I've stockpiled this year so I'll have them in summer too.
cwhd, oatmeal dressed up with all the fixings sounds excellent. |

Yay for steel-cut! I love the texture of them too, just not the cooking time...they are my Saturday/Sunday morning "treat"
I just ran out of the last of my currants this morning _________________

The above thought is smart and doesn’t require any further addition.
It’s perfect thought from my side.

| I don't really like oatmeal so I have been using brown rice and adding a little bit of fruit and cinammon or vanilla and some unsweetened soy milk. |
