A specific compound in green tea may help minimize heart damage during a medical crisis.
Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) -- an antioxidant found in abundance in green tea -- appears to help put the brakes on a protein that hastens cell death. This, in turn, could help protect heart cells during a crisis, such as when the heart is deprived of oxygen during a heart attack. Sipping on green, black, or oolong teas will add EGCG to your diet. |
